My friend, are you going to Hong kong soon? Glad to know that your dream of going there will be fulfilled. I hope you read my blog entry on how you can save on your HK trip 😉
Aside from the recent natural disaster the Philippines is facing, another news concern the travelling Filipinos. Just recently, HK Legislators voted 41-3 , with 7 abstentions, favoring former HK Security Chief Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee’s petition amending the visa-free access of Filipinos in their country. This is due to the hostage crisis that had happened in Manila with a Filipino gunman hostaging HK Tourists in a bus.
I don’t want to dwell on this issue. An opinionated side of me would like to write a post about it. But then, that would-be post is lengthy. Instead, I’ll just cater to those travellers who are concern about the recent events.
As posted by Raul Hernandez – our Department of Foreign Affairs’ Spokesperson, visa-free entry for Filipinos is still valid. This was posted today (11th of November 2013) on his official twitter account.
What does it mean? It means the votes of some HK Legislator is not yet in effect. Which means, there is still a chance that it will not happen granted that there’s some talks between HK & Philippine Government. As for me, though the tourism of our country and other ASEAN countries will benefit from it, I hope it will not happen.
If you can still retrieve his tweet, he also gave a link on Department of Foreign Affairs website for all Filipino travellers who plan to go to Hong Kong in the future. Again, as of this time (11th of November 2013), we can still enjoy a 14-day stay in Hong Kong as tourist without any visa. However, travellers were advise to check the following websites for updates and confirmation.
Here’s the list as posted on DFA’s advisory:
- Hongkong Immigration Department

- Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong

LATEST UPDATE!!! As of February 5th 2014, all Filipinos with “Diplomatic” or “Official” Passports are now require to get Visa before entering Hong Kong. But for my Kababayans with a simple passport, we can still enter HK visa-free. Please do visit Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) website for the latest news.
Stay safe, my friend! 🙂
